The Legal Department is one of the departments under the Managing Director’s office. It is headed by the company secretary and Legal Adviser to the Agency.

FUNCTIONS:
1.      Renders Legal Advice and opinions: The Department gives legal advice and opinion on aspect affecting the Agency and its operations. It ensures that the Agency carries out its various activities within the ambits of the law and its enabling instrument.
 
2.      Prepares, Draft and Vets Legal Documents: The department also prepares, drafts and vets various legal documents to which the Agency is a party. These documents range from Contract and tenancy Agreement to memoranda of understanding (MOU) and a host of other legal or contractual documents. The department ensures that the Agency complies with the various contractual laws and the agency’s interests are adequately protected in all contractual relationship.
 
3.      Handles and Supervises Litigations: The department is responsible for the supervision of cases involving the agency. It ensures that appropriate external solicitors are instructed to handle any litigation affecting the Agency. It watches briefs regularly, monitors such cases and advices Management on appropriate course of actions in pursuit of such matters.
4.      Secretarial Services: The department provides Secretarial services to various management and Board Committees in the Agency. It also serves as a secretariat for the board of the Agency.
5.      Responsible for legal Instruments and Documents: The department keeps the Agency’s seal and other Legal Instruments and documents. This includes Contracts and tenancy Agreements, Records of various meetings, etc.
